Volunteers and staff at the Fossil Discovery Center hope a successful turnout to their largest fundraiser of the year will help them move forward with big plans.

“We have a lot of plans here and this fundraiser is for a good cause, which is to come out and support the ever-growing Fossil Discovery Center,” said Lori Pond, president of the San Joaquin Valley Paleontology Foundation, which funds the center.

The second annual benefit “An Evening with the Ancient Stars” is set to begin with a nohost bar and appetizers at 6 p.m. Saturday. A dinner will follow at 7:30 p.m. and a silent auction will be ongoing during the event at Sherman Thomas Ranch Estate, 10795 Road 26. Cost is $40 per person and $50 at the door. To purchase tickets call the center at 665-7107 or Valley Pistachio Country Store, 674- 0020.

Organized by the foundation, last year the event drew about 300 people and raised nearly $7,000, Pond said. She hopes for the same turnout, but a higher amount this year...
