City Administrator David Tooley announced Monday that he will recommend Interim Police Chief Steve Frazier for appointment as the next Madera chief of police.

Frazier is a 27-year veteran of the department and has served as a patrol officer, sergeant, commander, and twice as interim chief.

“The City conducted a competitive process and had the good fortune of a number of excellent candidates,” Tooley said. “After interviews with a professional panel of Chiefs of Police, a citizen’s panel, and an interview with prospective peers in the organization, Mr. Frazier emerged as the best qualified candidate for the position.”

Consistent with the City’s hiring practices for management employees, Tooley will recommend an at-will employment agreement for the City Council’s consideration...
