3 killed in 2 murder-suicides in Eastern Madera County
A mother kills her young daughter and takes her own life. A bitter divorce leads a man to take the lives of his wife and her attorney before killing himself. An unsolved gang-related shooting on a Madera street leaves one man dead, with no suspects.
Those are three of the four confirmed homicides within Madera County in 2011. One case occurred in the city of Madera and three in Eastern Madera County. Another case is still under review to determine if it is a homicide and one case was ruled a justifiable homicide.
On Jan. 25, 2011 Crystal Lynn Lewis, 23, killed her 5- year-old daughter Marijane Lewis. The sheriff’s department said Crystal cut her daughter’s throat around 4:30 a.m. before walking two and a half miles to the William Sell Bridge in Mariposa County.
Crystal jumped approximately 200 feet to her death off the bridge on Old Highway 49. Her body was spotted by a citizen and found by the sheriff’s department around 7:30 a.m...
