Food Bank to kick off its SNAPP program

A popular weekly produce giveaway program will begin Thursday, with the Madera Food Bank and a group of senior citizen volunteers providing the time and effort necessary for its success.

Called the Senior Nutritional and Produce Program, or SNAPP, seniors over the age of 55 will be able to go to Town and Country Park every Thursday from 7 to 9 a.m. and pay $2 to receive 10 to 30 pounds of produce.

Michelle Ruiz, the Madera Food Bank’s office manager, said the program would run until October, possibly into November if weather permits.

“If there isn’t a complete downpour in those months or anything like that we’ll extend it a few more weeks,” Ruiz said...
