First 5 to open resource center in Oakhurst

First 5 Madera County will open its third Family Resource Center on Saturday in Oakhurst. A grand opening will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at the new facility, 49169 Road 426.

Activities during the open house will include a petting zoo, pony rides, tricycle obstacle course, leaf craft activity, bean bag toss, and a candy guessing game, according to Mariana Hernandez, First 5’s community engagement facilitator.

First 5 Madera County provides services for children 5 and under and their parents. The Family Resource Center also will serve as a referral center for child development services in the area, as well as providing health care enrollment assistance.

Additionally, First 5 will deploy programs in the outlying communities, partnering with preschools, churches, libraries and community centers in Bass Lake, Ahwahnee, North Fork, Coarsegold, Yosemite Lakes Park, O’Neals and Raymond...
