First 5 celebrates 15 years

It was seven years ago that Leticia Ceballos, a 39-year-old Madera mother, brought her two children into the local First 5 Family Resource Center.

While sitting in the lobby of local pediatrician Aftab Naz, another Maderan told her about the free nutrition programs and activities available at the center. From that, Ceballos — speaking to Naz and other leaders of First 5 at the group’s monthly meeting Tuesday — said the decision was easy to make.

“Somebody said my daughter loved to eat and I was worried she was going to blow up,” Ceballos said. “So then I learned that First 5 had nutrition programs, story time, play time, everything for free, and I knew I had to go.”

Ceballos brought her daughter Hannah and son Elijah, 1 and 3 years old at the time, into the First 5 Central Center on 525 E. Yosemite Ave. and from the very first visit she knew she had found something special...
