Golf tournament to be followed by afternoon of family activities

The annual City of Madera 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular will be held tomorrow at Madera Municipal Golf Course at Avenue 17 and Road 23. The event is for the entire family and parking is free.

The annual Independence Day golf tournament will start at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. At 5 p.m. family fun will begin with games, a kid’s zone, entertainment, music and dancing, and food and refreshments. No outside food or beverages and no pets are allowed.

Fireworks will begin at sundown. Due to traffic congestion, law enforcement may close the roads prior to the fireworks. Parking for the event could close 30 minutes before the fireworks begin or when the lot is full. Those attending are encouraged to arrive early and carpooling is suggested.

Mayor Robert Poythress encourages people to come out and enjoy the day. “I would like to welcome and invite Maderans of all ages to join us for a great day of celebration,” he said...
