Fire burns house for second time

For the second time in two weeks, a fire of suspicious origin erupted at a ranch house and garage in the 18600 block of Avenue 16 1/2, according to CalFire. No injuries were reported.

This time the vacant home was completely destroyed by the early Monday morning fire, firefighters said.

City of Madera battalion fire chief Rhonda Myers said the family had already been displaced due to the first fire, and most of the damaged contents of the home were still sitting in the front yard.

“It was just before 8 a.m. this morning. It may have been burning (unnoticed) for a little while,” Myers said. “When we arrived on scene we found two separate, fully involved fires — one in the unattached garage and one in the house. The heavy smoke plume was visible for miles.” ...
