The annual Fiesta in the Park was held Sunday at Courthouse Park. It was the tenth year for the event that features cultural foods, music, dances, games and informational booths. The Fiesta is held in recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month and is sponsored by Latinas Unidas de Madera.
This year’s fiesta was dedicated to longtime Madera resident Nora Salazar. She was honored with a plaque presented to her family. Salazar, who died earlier this year, was a supporter of community events, and of youth and senior activities and programs.
One of the fiesta’s coordinators, and daughter of Salazar, Rosanne Bonilla, expressed her happiness with the attendance and number of booths at this special fiesta dedicated to her mother. “There are more booths this year than ever, and a lot of community outreach vendors, including the (Madera County) Health Department giving flu shots and a bicycle safety activity,” said Bonilla.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard from Madera Post 1918 opened the fiesta with the presentation of the colors and the Pledge of Allegiance. It was followed by an invocation in both English and Spanish...
