For nearly 70 years Ficklin Vineyards in Madera has focused on creating Port wine using authentic Portuguese grape varieties and traditional production methods.
For its unique contribution to the California wine industry, Ficklin Vineyards will receive the California State Fair’s 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award in July.

In 1945, Walter C. Ficklin and his sons, David and Walter Jr., collaborated with UC Davis to obtain authentic Portuguese grapes and develop the plan to be the first to produce premium Port wines in the state.
