Getting fresh fruits and vegetables may be easier for some with the return of the Madera County Farmers’ Market on Thursday.
The Madera County Farmers’ Market will be held every Thursday at Courthouse Park in Madera from 4-6:30 p.m. through August 21 (closed July 3rd), said Yosimi Santoyo of First 5 Madera County.
According to California’s First 5 Association, nearly 11 percent percent of all preschoolers are at risk of becoming overweight, and as children get older that statistic only rises. In Madera County, 35 percent of children eat less than five servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
“It is our hope that the farmers’ market will get families started on a healthier diet and therefore help reduce obesity rates in Madera County especially in children that are younger than 5 years old,” says Diane Sandoval, farmers’ market manager...
