FRESNO (AP) — The family of a boy struck and killed in a crosswalk has sued the Fresno high school basketball coach who allegedly hit him. But they also think the city of Fresno is to blame.

Attorney Warren Paboojian said that the crosswalk in which seven-year-old Donovan Maldonado was riding his bicycle when he was struck in July was poorly designed.

Paboojian filed suit against the city and the alleged drunken driver who struck Maldonado, Central High School Varsity Basketball Coach Loren LeBeau, earlier this week.

Maldonado’s father and his 18-month-old sister were also struck. They suffered serious injuries.

LeBeau has pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter and other charges in the case.
