Family raises funds for motorcyclist's burial

The family and friends of a Madera man who was killed Saturday morning in a motorcycle crash gathered Thursday to raise money for his burial expenses.

Roger Godinez, 20, was traveling westbound on Yosemite Avenue when his motorcycle was clipped by an F-150 truck after the driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic in the Q Street intersection, the Madera Police Department said. Godinez died when his motorcycle went out of control upon being hit and he hit a pole nearby, authorities said.

Roger’s father, Miguel Godinez, and stepmother Graciela Godinez, were among dozens of people who gathered at the crash site Thursday to raise money to pay for his funeral. Some supporters waved signs asking motorists for donations, while others prepared meals to sell.

“All his friends and family and those who knew him have been here. A lot of people knew him because he grew up here,” he said...
