Family pinned in car by crash

An unidentified woman with three young passengers crashed into a tree and flipped her car on its side along Gateway Drive early Monday morning, Madera Police Department Cpl. Shawn Bushey said, trapping herself and two of the kids in the car until help arrived.

Bushey said the crash happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Gateway Drive near 11th Street.

As the woman drove south on Gateway, Bushey said she made a turn for an unknown reason and hit the tree, causing the Honda Civic to roll on its side.

When officers arrived, they found the woman and two children trapped inside the car and medical staff had to use the Jaws of Life prying tool to rescue them, Bushey said...
