Eager to celebrate their town’s centennial this summer, Fairmead residents have raised about $1,000. And although they’re a long way from reaching their goal, organizers are already planning to use the money to pay for a parade, festival, banners for street lights and souvenir books among other items.

Another fundraiser is slated for Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Fairmead Community and Friends will host “Sweetheart of a Deal Fundraiser” at Fairmead Elementary School, 19421 Avenue 22 3/4. Tacos and nachos will be sold and entertainment will be provided.

Tickets for about 10 raffle prizes — which include gift baskets, jewelry boxes, a manicure set, hair accessories, two collector’s stock cars donated by Supervisor Tom Wheeler and a gift card donated by Black Bear Diner — will be sold for $1 each or six for $5...
