Madera resident gives $1,000 toward centennial celebration
About 60 people dropped by a small cafeteria in Fairmead to buy food, pastries and raffle tickets to help pay for the town’s upcoming centennial celebration.
The Sweetheart of a Deal Fundraiser at Fairmead Elementary School was put on by the fundraising committee Fairmead Community and Friends on Saturday.
The 18-member group hopes to raise about $4,000 to pay for a parade, festival, banners for street lights and souvenir books among other items to celebrate Fairmead’s centennial on June 2.
Organizers hope the centennial celebration will bring a stronger sense of community pride to the town of about 1,500 people, who reside in a couple of blocks of homes near two churches and one elementary school...
