Buildings, machinery will replicate sawmill in early Madera

The Madera District Fair, “The Heart of California fairs,” is pumping life into the heart of Madera County history with its construction of an interactive exhibit that shows how Madera County was named and where it got its start.

Fair CEO Scott Sample and board member Skip Petitt put together a plan to enable fair visitors to be able to see the mother of Madera County — the lumber industry — in operation.

After two years of planning and consulting with Sample and Petitt, the fair board engaged Creative World Studios to design and construct a replica of the industry to which Madera County owes its beginning.

Madera is the Spanish word for lumber...
