A free plant exchange set for Saturday aims to help the community recycle while beautifying its neighborhoods. The second annual Plant Give and Take, organized by Community Volunteers Central Valley, will feature donated surplus bulbs, cuttings and other plant materials as well as experts in gardening to answer questions.

The Plant Give and Take is set from 9 a.m. to noon in the pavilion area of Lions Town and Country Park, near Granada Drive and Industrial Avenue. Everyone is welcome to donate their excess plants and or take some, said Cal Crane, chairman of the event and board member of Community Volunteers Central Valley.

“We encourage people to bring any surplus of whatever they have, and then to take plants and get things growing and improve the appearance of Madera,” said Crane.

Organizers hope for a larger turnout this year because only about 30 people showed up at the first Plant Give and Take, he said...
