The Madera Elks Lodge #1918 presented its first middle school Student of the Month award during family night Friday at the lodge. The initial honor went to Thomas Jefferson eighth grader Francine Murillo. Student counselor Trino Cadaoas nominated Murillo for the award.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is a fraternal and social organization in the U.S. with programs that benefit their communities.
Murillo is on the Jefferson honor roll and a member of the school band, student council and academic pentathlon. According to counselor Cadaoas she has aided in the Gould Counseling Center’s Festival for severely handicapped students.
