The Madera Elks Lodge have honored Angelisa Pantoja and Daniel Reyes as Students of the Month at its monthly Family Night. Angelisa, an eighth grader at Thomas Jefferson, and Daniel, an eighth grader at Martin Luther King Jr., accepted the awards Friday evening at the lodge.

Angelisa and Daniel both carry grade point averages near 4.0.

Angelisa is a member of the symphonic band and also is the school mascot. Besides music, she loves playing soccer and reading books. She dreams of studying at University of California, Los Angeles, and becoming a pediatric oncologist. At school, she belongs to the peer helpers group and founded an anti-bullying group to make the school safer for all students.

Also in attendance for Angelisa were her mother, Shannon Zepeda, and her vice-principal, Darlene Stiers...
