The Madera Elks Lodge presented its second Student of the Month award for middle school students at their Family Night dinner Thursday at the lodge. This month’s recipient was Antonio Govea of Jack G. Desmond Middle School. He was nominated by counselor Cindy Rodriguez.
Elks President Adam Thomas and committee chairman John Bliss presented the award. Also in attendance were Desmond Principal Marvin Baker and administrative assistant Eileen Yonemura.
Govea is a seventh grader and according to Rodriguez he distinguishes himself with very good grades and through his kindness has earned the respect of his peers. “It is not uncommon for Antonio to go out of his way to help others,” said Rodriguez. In one instance he opened his home to a fellow student he knew could not afford Thanksgiving dinner.
