The Madera Elks Lodge #1918 has honored Martin Luther King, Jr., Middle School eighth grader Larry Casarrubias with its Student of the Month Award at the lodge meeting May 23.

Making the presentation was Elks Lodge president Eddie Block and Student of the Month program coordinator John Bliss. Also attending the ceremony were the student’s father, Pablo Casarrubias, and sisters, Alexandra and Jennifer. MLK science teacher Bruce Frandsen nominated Casarrubias for the award.

“Larry is an excellent student, plays on our championship soccer team, and is the first president of the California Junior Scholarship Federation,” said Frandsen.

Young Casarrubias also enjoys playing volleyball and football. He wants to continue to get good grades and hopefully go to a good college...
