Elks honor law enforcement

The Madera Elks Lodge #1918 honored Madera County law enforcement at their annual dinner Thursday evening at the lodge — including a three-time honoree.

Honorees were Mark Casentino of the California Highway Patrol, Felix Gonzalez of the Madera Police Department, Richard Gonzales of the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy District Attorney Miguel Valdovinos, Francisco Rojas of probation, Alberta Allen of the Department of Corrections, Lynne Rodriguez of the Central California Women’s Facility and William Phillips of Valley State Prison.

“It’s unprecedented. Deputy Gonzales joined our department in 2007 and in that time he has twice been voted our department’s stand-out,” said Sheriff John Anderson during the awards ceremony. He later added that the three-time Officer of the Year “is the kind of individual we should all want to emulate.”
