The Madera Elks Lodge #1918 held their annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Night to honor officers and agencies throughout the city and county. Elks Trustee and former Madera police officer Russell Suderman acted as Master of Ceremonies. Special guest speaker was Madera County Sheriff John Anderson.

An Officer of the Year Award was presented to each law enforcement agency. Those honored were Bill Spears, Madera Police Department; Hirotaka Hiura, California Highway Patrol; Matthew Pfeffer, District Attorney’s Office; Bennie Romiti, Madera County Sheriff’s Department, Octavio Jauregui, California State Parole Office; Chris Rodriguez, Madera County Department of Corrections; Vicki Irby, Madera County Probation; Laurie Laird, Valley State Prison for Women; and John Burich, Central California Women’s Facility.

The event held Thursday evening was the 38th year the local Elks have recognized the contributions of law enforcement. Over 130 lodge members, law enforcement staff and families attended the ceremony and dinner prepared by members of the lodge.
