Members of the Madera Elks Lodge #1918 recognized Catrina Burns, a seventh grader at Jack G. Desmond Middle School, as their Student of the Month at a family night dinner held at the lodge Friday evening.

Burns was nominated by Desmond vice-principal Darlene Stiers. “Catrina always has a positive outlook toward others and makes our school a better place due to her presence and her actions,” said Stiers.

Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler Eddie Block presented the award to Burns with her family Neal Burns, Anna Coulter and Nicolas Burns present.

Burns currently carries a 3.83 grade point average and would like to become a dentist. “I want people to have beautiful smiles,” said Burns...
