Prior to this week’s evening of bingo, the Madera Elks Lodge presented a total of $1,500 in checks to several local charities. The monies came from proceeds from the bingo nights that began June 5 and are held twice monthly at the lodge.
Elks Leading Knight Eddie Block presented the checks Tuesday. Recipients were the Martha Diaz Shelter for Battered Women, the Children’s Christmas Party project, the Needy Family Christmas Basket project, the Thanksgiving basket project, the Elks dictionary project, and the Veterans Day luncheon program.
The Elks bingo night started with a few members and their wives getting together and forming a committee. Funds to purchase the bingo equipment and items were raised by a yard sale and a tri-tip luncheon and dinner.
The lodge will continue to support local youth and community betterment projects with the funds raised from their bingo nights.
