With the Nov. 6 presidential election getting closer, the staff of the Madera County Elections Department conducted a trial run of its voting equipment Thursday with members of the community.

“We like to have different groups come in and verify we have programmed the equipment correctly,” said County Clerk Rebecca Martinez, who serves as the county’s registrar of voters.

The panel of testers consisted of Madera Rotary Club president Jim Pierce, County Counsel Doug Nelson, Chair of Madera County Republican Party Charlene Petitt, Grand Jury member Carol Long and Chair of Madera County Democratic Party Susan Rowe.

“We want people to see what the process is and the steps we take to ensure the equipment is counting properly on election night,” Martinez said...
