DUI driver convicted of vehicular manslaughter

A man driving his car hundreds of miles from home while intoxicated was convicted of felony manslaughter by jury late last week, the Madera County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release issued Friday.

Evidence introduced at trial determined 34-year-old Sancho Kibutu of Thousand Oaks was driving east on State Route 152 in August of 2011 while heavily intoxicated, the release said.

Kibutu’s erratic driving forced other vehicles from the roadway, the release said, and prompted witnesses to phone the California Highway Patrol.

As the CHP was en route to Kibutu’s general location, he crossed into opposing traffic at Golden State Boulevard north of Road 21 1/2 between Madera and Chowchilla and slammed into a car containing four men...
