Drug task force assistant dies

A program assistant for Madera County drug task force MADNET described by Sheriff John Anderson as a “dedicated public servant and trusted friend” died suddenly late Wednesday. She was 54.

Katherine Smith Ridley, known to her colleagues as Kat, joined the sheriff’s department in 2006 as an assistant to the Madera County Narcotics Enforcement Team.

“She was about as down to earth as anyone you would find,” Anderson said. “She was as dedicated to duty as she was loyal and kind. Kat was a rare find. She is deeply missed... and she will be hard to replace.”

During her six years managing the office, agents relied on her skills to organize daily statistics regarding ongoing investigations, drugs seizures and arrests. She also fielded countless calls from anonymous tipsters and connected them to the appropriate agent...
