Drug suspect arrested near Ave. 13 overpass

A man suspected to be under the influence of methamphetamine was found disoriented, stumbling and walking in the roadway near the Avenue 13 overpass, by the California Highway Patrol.

Arthur Zavola, 30, of Madera, was questioned by officers late Saturday night and failed several field tests for drug use.

Zavola denied any current meth use and said he didn’t live nearby.

He had no real idea why he was in the area on foot near midnight, but only that he was heading to the overpass. The man could have been easily struck or killed by vehicles, officers said...
