Marijuana grow in abandoned home broken up

Several law enforcement agencies teamed up to raid an illegal marijuana-growing operation in Madera County on Monday that resulted in the arrest of one and the discovery of more than 30 dogs guarding the plants.

Eric Gonzalez, 29, of the Mexican state of Sonora, was the only one of nine detainees to be arrested for felony possession of a loaded handgun and narcotics charges.

Authorities believe Gonzalez and the other eight suspects set up four marijuana “gardens” inside an abandoned home on Road 28 1/2 south of Harper Boulevard.

Madera County Narcotics Enforcement Team (MADNET) agents, the Madera County Sheriff’s Department, and Madera County Code Enforcement agents moved in on the sites early Monday morning...
