Driver who hit officer’s car suspected of DUI

A 44-year-old Madera man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol failed to stop for traffic at State Route 145 and Avenue 12 on Wednesday afternoon and hit the back of an off-duty California Highway Patrol officer’s personal car. No injuries were reported.

CHP officer Mark Cosentino said the driver then fled south on SR 145 about 12:20 p.m. with the off-duty officer following behind him.

On duty marked CHP units joined the effort to find the hit-and-run driver.

Pablo Villasana, Jr., 44, of Madera was arrested on charges of DUI after he led officers into vineyards near Road 27 1/2 for several miles between Avenue 9 and Avenue 7, Cosentino said...
