Driver of van that hit semi critically hurt

The driver of a delivery van was severely injured Thursday morning on State Route 152 near Road 11 after he struck the back of a slow-moving semi tanker truck at about 70 mph, according to The California Highway Patrol. 

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno via Life Flight helicopter, and isn’t likely to survive his injuries, emergency crews said.

The man was driving a white, unmarked late model Chevy delivery van westbound on SR 152 when he was apparently distracted and or didn’t see the large, silver semi truck in the slow lane in front of him. His van slammed into it at 70 mph, according to officers.

Madera CHP commander Lt. Dave Paris said the incident is under investigation, but distracted driving, including cell phone use, and excessive speed likely caused the crash. Other motorists told officers a similar white van passed them at high speeds moments before the crash...
