Driver sustains minor injuries in rollover

Unsafe passing was likely the cause for a rollover collision between a car and semi tractor truck on southbound State Route 99 near Highway 145, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred Thursday about 3:45 p.m. in fairly heavy traffic, according to the CHP. The 23-year-old female driver was taken to Madera Community Hospital with minor injuries, and was treated and released.

Officers said the Honda Accord was in the right hand lane and may have been attempting to pass the semi truck on the wrong side of the roadway at 65 mph, just as the semi driver attempted to move into the slow lane.

“The semi truck driver apparently did not see the Honda and the two vehicles sideswiped each other. The Honda spun off of the roadway about 50 feet, and then overturned near a fence,” said Sgt. John Johnson...
