Dog park refreshed by volunteers

City worker Gerardo Velasquez spent part of his Saturday morning showing Madera Rotary Club volunteers how to assemble a new bench for the dog park located at Rotary Park on Gateway Drive. The effort was part of Love Madera Day.

Nearly two dozen citizens from the Rotary Club, administrators and staff from the Parks and Community Services Department, Friends of the Dog Park and other volunteers arrived with shovels, rakes, hoes, gloves and enthusiasm to improve the facilities.

According to Parks Planning Manager John Scarborough, they built five benches, replaced some trees, improved the landscape with new plants and shrubs, and cleaned up the area.
