Disc golf tournament benefits Relay For Life

Teams and individuals played under the cold, windy and cloudy skies in a Frisbee golf tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society.

In what organizers hope will become an annual event, the first Madera Relay For Life Disc Golf Tournament saw Rusty Burns, David Valdivia, Roy Brincefield, and Terry Carson win trophies and movie tickets Saturday morning at Lions Town and Country Park.

Despite the weather, tournament coordinators Mike Phelps and Charlotte Brewer were pleased with the turnout. Phelps thanked the Madera Kiwanis Club for putting in the course last summer.

“This is a terrific course and a lot of fun to play,” said Phelps. In addition to Brewer, Relay volunteers Teresa Papazian and Ginny Bradley also helped with the tournament...
