Sally Moreno tries cases with victims of sexual assault, rape

Deputy District Attorney Sally Moreno says working in her profession is a lot different from what most people would expect from shows like “Law and Order.”

“There’s so much TV about what we do, it’s hard to convince people that that’s not it,” said Moreno, who has been at the Madera District Attorney’s Office for a little over a year now.

After being off work for about seven years to raise her four children, Moreno, 44, is back in the office and in the courtroom, working specifically with cases involving victims of sexual assault and rape. Her easygoing nature and quick sense of humor don’t mask her grit.

The UC Santa Barbara graduate worked temporarily for the Los Angeles Police Department before returning to the Central Valley where she was born and raised. She attended San Joaquin College of Law for her law degree, getting married during that time and starting her family...
