A Madera teenager was arrested Thursday morning — and grinned for his booking photo — in connection with an overnight crime spree that involved a stolen truck and at least 20 car break-ins, the Madera County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Sergio Perez, 18, was caught around 5 a.m., just two hours after the Sheriff’s Department started receiving calls about car burglaries in the area of Country Club Drive in northern Madera, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart.

Nearly 20 vehicle break-ins were reported in the area overnight, and that number had grown to at least 25 by mid-afternoon, Stuart said.

“There may be more, these were just the people leaving their home in the early morning,” she said. “We may get more calls today.” ...
