Denham looking for student artists for Congressional contest

A competition for aspiring student artists living in the state’s 19th Congressional District, which includes parts of Madera County, is under way and the winner’s work will be displayed in Washington, D.C.

The Congressional Art Competition provides high school students with the opportunity to showcase their artwork throughout their districts, as well as the chance to receive national recognition.

Each year, every member of Congress is invited to choose one grand prize entry from his or her district to send to Washington, D.C. Since its creation in 1982, more than 650,000 students have participated in the competition nationwide.

“The Congressional Art Competition is a wonderful way for the students of California’s 19th Congressional District to share their talents and a piece of our community with the rest of the nation,” said Congressman Jeff Denham, R-Turlock. “I invite all interested students to submit their entries to this year’s competition, and I look forward to seeing the creativity the young artists of our district have to offer.” ...
