Demonstrators protest after one student knocked cold by another

An assault on a 13-year-old eighth-grade student on the front lawn of Thomas Jefferson Middle School by two older teens escalated into an anti-bullying protest by a dozen, sign-carrying adults Friday afternoon.

Julie Gray, organizer of the protest, said she was prompted to Friday’s action by the assault on her son, Tyler Gray, Sept. 6.

According to the mother, Tyler was sitting under one of the shade trees in front of the school that afternoon, when the two older youths came walking by on the sidewalk and heard the small group of younger students laughing.

Tyler said the boys came up to them and wanted to know what they were laughing at, and one of them struck him in the temple area of his head and knocked him out. Tyler’s account of the attack was confirmed by School Resource Officer Louis Reyes who is conducting an official police investigation...
