DA files charge against woman suspected of beating puppy

A 39-year-old Oakhurst woman will be arraigned on a charge of felony animal cruelty Tuesday after she was arrested on suspicion of nearly beating her puppy to death.

Madera County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Janice Aguilar on Aug. 29 after witnesses allegedly saw her slamming the puppy’s head into the ground. She then reportedly stuffed the injured animal in her backpack and fled the area.

Aguilar and the puppy were found at a park, where a bystander reportedly found the dog too injured to recover and ended its suffering.

Aguilar was booked into Madera County jail and released the following day after posting bail...
