Cowbelles promote beef, raise scholarship money

Beef… it’s what’s for dinner — and lunch.The Madera County Cattlewomen’s Association, known for years by the affectionate nickname ‘Cowbelles’, hosted its annual chuckwagon luncheon on Thursday.

Blanche Campbell, the chairwoman for the event has held the job for about as long as anyone can remember, said Cowbelles president Adele Bartholomew.

While Bartholomew isn’t sure exactly how many years the luncheon has been held, she remembers attending it in the 1970s with her mother.

The Cowbelles were delighted to have the association’s state president Tammie McElroy and her mother, Marine Lerner from Gridley in Butte County, attend their event. McElroy and her husband have a herd of about 50 Black Angus and Hereford cattle, she said...
