Court date set for Ahwahnee couple

An Ahwahnee husband and wife are expected to make a court appearance next month to answer for a string of theft and drug charges.

An investigation begun by Deputy Michael Gordon on Jan. 17 of allegedly fraudulent debit card charges led to the arrest of Melissa Mae Johnson, 31, and her husband, Wayne Johnson, 43.

After serving a search warrant Jan. 25, deputies and an agent from the Madera Narcotics Enforcement Team found methamphetamine, methadone, marijuana, a stolen firearm and a stolen driver’s license.

They also discovered the dwelling’s septic tank was leaking raw sewage on the ground near the house, where the couple’s two children also were living...
