When Michael Lahr and Christy Prince of Oakhurst originally decided they were going to get married Wednesday at the Madera County Clerk’s office they didn’t expect to be at Madera Community Hospital having their first child together.
The couple wanted to get married before the birth of their son who wasn’t due for another five days. They told the nurses at the hospital that their intentions were to get married that day. Their plans were interrupted when Christy, 30, went into labor the night before and was admitted to the hospital.
The nurses in the labor and delivery wing decided to see if they could help the couple make their wedding wishes a reality. One of the nurses contacted a friend at the clerk’s office to see about arranging a wedding. As luck would have it, Clerk Recorder Rebecca Martinez went to the hospital and performed the ceremony. The nurses decorated the room and made the bride a bouquet out of diapers and were also the witnesses.
The two were married at 11 a.m. and welcomed their baby boy, 5 pound 11 ounce Luke Jacob Lahr at 1:18 p.m...
