County students to exhibit artwork

Locals are set to celebrate national Youth Art Month this month by hosting an exhibit and giving a proclamation.

Madera County Arts Council plans to kick off an annual youth art exhibit with a reception on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the former space of Madera Association of Realtors, 1653 N. Schnoor Ave., Suite 115. Owner Steve Barsotti allowed MCAC to use the office space adjacent to Circle Gallery, said board member Martha Mossman.

Various forms of artwork by elementary, middle and high school students from Madera County will be showcased. The exhibit will remain viewable by the public through March during normal Circle Gallery business hours, which are Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A chalk art competition will take place during the reception in the parking lot by the gallery. The theme for the student competition is “My school mascot.” Chalk and a 2- by-2 square will be sold for $2 to others who want to draw...
