Madera County has approved an agreement with a new contractor to take care of the county's trash.
A 10-year contract with Caglia Environmental of Fresno was approved Tuesday. That contract will replace the agreement with Madera Disposal Systems, which the county canceled and is due to end Dec. 31.
Madera Disposal, which has been the county's contractor since the early 1990s, has taken the county to court over the cancellation, claiming it had a five-year renewal option. That suit hasn't been adjudicated.
Caglia will be responsible for hauling the trash from county customers in the Madera valley to the Fairmead Landfill, which the company also will operate, and for operating the garbage transfer station in North Fork...
