'Year of the Youth' under way
As part of Madera County’s first-ever “Year of the Youth,” community leaders on Monday announced a series of health-focused events for all ages while honoring those who have dedicated themselves to bettering the lives of local kids.
First 5 Madera County and the Madera County Public Health Department joined together in hosting Monday’s press conference, which respectively opened “Week of the Young Child” and National Public Health Week for each group.
From CPR classes to kid-friendly carnivals, both organizations have set up numerous activities — scheduled to end Sunday — under their week’s respective label with a general focus on the well-being of Maderans.
“We both are committed to strengthening families and promoting good health,” said Sue Crandell, deputy director of the public health department. “We do things a little bit differently but we all work together towards the same goal. We’re excited about what we have planned.” ...
