Applications are being accepted for a vacant position at the Madera Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO). The alternate public member position is open to county residents willing to provide civic services to their community by providing comments during regular meetings on all agenda items and exercising their voting rights in the absence of the regular member.

Madera LAFCO has jurisdiction over changes in local government organization occurring within Madera County, such as annexations and incorporations of cities and special districts. LAFCOs are created by state law and encourage the orderly formation of local government agencies, to preserve agricultural and open space land, and to discourage urban sprawl.

Applications for appointment to the Commission seat of “Alternate Public Member-at-Large” are available by contacting Jerome Keene or Dave Herb, 675-7821 or visiting
