Council begins to dissolve RDA

The Madera Redevelopment Agency has begun the long and complicated process of putting itself out of business, due to a California law which seeks to grab the tax money the state’s redevelopment agencies have generated for more than 40 years.

On Wednesday night, Madera City Council, acting as the RDA board, appointed itself as successor agency to the Redevelopment Agency, charged with the task of disposing of the RDA’s assets and deciding the future of the agency’s activities.

The council also will have to appoint an oversight board no later than May 1 to approve all its decisions.

That board will include members from other local taxing agencies...
