Cotton plowdown deadline nearing

It’s cotton plowdown time again. In Madera County, all cotton stalks must be shredded, uprooted and plowed by Dec. 31.

The county Agricultural Commissioner’s department will survey cotton fields next year to assure compliance with the regulations. Fields not in compliance may face fine actions.

“With the dry fall and winter this year, growers should have time to comply,” said Stevie McNeill, local agricultural commissioner.
